We are activists at heart, and understand that when you put the right people together, innovative things happen. We support the spirit of entrepreneurship.
Innovative Communication Campaigns
Birdsong Communications Group has been developing comprehensive and creative communication campaigns for clients for over twenty years. Selected clients have included the following: The United Nations Association during their International Conference on Literacy in which strategic partners from the world of public broadcasting and the US Chamber of Commerce were brought together to discuss the importance of the challenge of illiteracy as a global issue and workforce literacy; The United Way of America’s 1990 issues campaign focused on domestic violence and teen substance abuse in which famed Murder She Wrote actress, Angela Lansbury served as spokesperson; The Kentlands Development Project based in Gaithersburg, Maryland which was the first large scale new urbanist master planned community designed and built for year round residents in the United States. Kentlands now serves as a laboratory for new urbanists theories and is one of the most visited and studied examples of new urbanism in the country; The Scholarship Fund of Alexandria’s first “Profiles of Success ” campaign and The Shipbuilder Monument Initiative which resulted in massive city wide coalition building and the construction and ultimate dedication of The Shipbuilder Monument to the City of Alexandria. The monument was designed by nationally recognized sculptor, Michael Curtis and serves as a tribute to the maritime history of this important American Seaport. Please view the Selected Initiative page for more detailed summaries on various projects.
Strategic Partnership Development
BCG understands that strategic partnering , the forging of collaborative public and private relationships is the key oftentimes to achieving business goals and to the identification of funding sources that may encourage innovative solutions and fresh ideas. Problem solving is fundamentally about innovation and continually looking at an issue from different perspectives and from various disciplines. Solid partnership development can offer multiple perspectives with the merging of organizational and individual strengths. New vision, a new idea, or a new business solution often is the result. BCG’s Partnership with the United Nations Association Conference on Literacy is an example of the effectiveness of strategic partnership development.

Grassroots Initiatives Leadership
At BCG, we understand how important it is to build coalitions. We cut our teeth early on the experiences gained from building coalitions during state wide political campaigns and cultural events in the state of Virginia. Serving as an executive committee leader for many nonprofits, Ms Winburn successfully built local support for many causes related to women and children at risk for the City of Alexandria. The Campagna Center and its annual, nationally recognized Scottish Christmas Walk weekend, The Shipbuilder Monument Project, The Child and Family Network, and The Scholarship Fund of Alexandria and most recently, Jobs for Virginia’s Graduates (JVG) are all solid examples of organizations that required local or state wide grassroots leadership.
