BIRDSONG COMMUNICATIONS GROUP

Founded in l988, Birdsong Communications Group (BCG) has served as a catalyst for the development and administration of a diverse selection of client initiatives. We are a creative, diverse group that puts our clients and their specific needs first. We understand the process of assessing communication needs, developing appropriate strategies in collaboration with our clients and ultimately managing a proposed project. A final product may include a fully formed public outreach campaign that incorporates multiple forms of media,  advocacy representation, creative public/private partnership formation , or a cultural exhibition or special event that addresses the fundraising and development goals of our client.

During the past twenty years, we have successfully advised and guided many non profits through the strategic growth process and have focused  on combining both traditional forms of media with new technology to address the needs of our clients. At BCG. we are committed to innovative , strategic problem solving and effective interdisciplinary collaboration.

UNITED NATIONS ASSOCIATION NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON LITERACY

Corinne Birdsong Winburn, as Founder of Birdsong Communications Group, created strategic partnerships with Project Literacy U.S. (PLUS) and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Provided national speakers for international event that reached global audiences and focused on the topic of worldwide literacy and how to combat illiteracy challenges particularly in developing countries. Served on conference planning committee. Directed communications and provided program development oversight in collaboration with the USA Association Planning Committee. *The United Nations Association of the United States of America is a national organization dedicated to strengthening the U.N. system and to enhancing U.S. participation in international institutions. UNA-USA carries out its action agenda through a unique combination of public outreach, policy analysis, and international dialogue.

BCG/UNION SQUARE LLC

HISTORIC ALEXANDRIA, VIRGINIA 2018

Announcing BCG’s most recent initiative: The opening of BCG/Union Square LLC at 204 South Royal Street in historic Old Town , Alexandria in 2018. Union Square is a stunning adaptive reuse space that provides clientele with expansive meeting and event accommodations. THE MANSION FLATS, LLC DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

HABERSHAM, SOUTH CAROLINA

REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT PROJECT, 2010

As co owner of this innovative real estate project located in the lowcountry of South Carolina, Ms Winburn in partnership with William Winburn, provided oversight and design and project marketing assistance for the Mansion-Flats prototype in the Habersham lowcountry community, a National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) award-winning development. 

DEPRESSION, AWARENESS, RECOGNITION, TREATMENT (DART) PUBLIC AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF MENTAL HEALTH (NIMH)

As part of the media relations team at Nancy Lowe and Associates, Ms. Winburn served as Washington media coordinator for national campaign kickoff for this NIMH public awareness campaign focused on the topic of Depression and Treatment. National DART campaign budget based at $750,000.00. Coordinated the development of informational exhibition for national campaign launch in collaboration with the National Gallery of Art. Organized press activities and provided creative development support for overall campaign in the late 1980’s.

RACHEL CARSON EARLY CHILDHOOD ARTS EDUCATION CENTER

CO-OWNER 1990 TO 1991

With partner William Winburn, co-designed and co-developed state-of-the-art childcare and education facility in early New Urbanism planned community. Researched and installed advanced learning technology in the center. Spearheaded the development of communications materials for THE AMERICAN TOWN EXHIBITION working closely with architects and builders. Communication materials became part of the visitor information center at the Kentlands community. Documented the Kentlands masterplanning process as it unfolded for archives.

Guided the development and the marketing strategy that transformed the organization into one of most successful non-profits in Alexandria, Virginia. Managed the development of the first “Profiles of Success” campaign designed in collaboration with Twig Murray, local Alexandria designer. Directed and managed the complete reconfiguration of Board of Trustees and created new Advisory Board. Co-chaired the annual fundraising gala at Woodlawn Plantation that brought in over $100,000.00 which was a record for fundraising proceeds. Reinvented the annual telethon as a fundraising event working in collaboration with the staff. Served as chairman of the board for two sessions. Created new key partnerships with The Motley Fool and Capital One. SFA awarded $350,000 in scholarships in 2003, and $778,000 in scholarships in 2008. Since 1986, SFA has funded $6.6 million in scholarships.

JOBS FOR VIRGINIA GRADUATES , STATE AFFILIATE FOR JOBS FOR AMERICA'S GRADUATES, JAG

Jobs for Virginia’s Graduates (JVG) is the state’s leading nonprofit ( 501c 3) organization that serves Virginia’s most disadvantages and at risk youth who have multiple barriers in graduating from high school. JVG is funded in part by the General Assembly. JVG’s mission is to assist students in graduating, finding and keeping quality jobs and/or to continue to pursue their education. We believe that the JVG program is one of most cost effective programs of its kind in the country , and that JVG is a solid investment in Virginia’s economic workforce.

As a state board member and strategic growth advisor, Birdsong Communications Group has provided strategic partnership development services and continues to advise on growth related issues as well as marketing related topics. In June of 2010, Birdsong Communciations Group assisted with the planning and partnership linkage as part of JVG’s 20th year celebration at the Cosmos Club in Washington, DC.

SHIPBUILDER MONUMENT IN ALEXANDRIA, VIRGINIA

Co-Initiator of civic project to erect monument dedicated to the city’s shipbuilding and maritime heritage. Directed strategic partnerships with multiple constituent, civic, and political leaders. Coordinated the city wide team that raised $500,000 to implement project. Identified funding sources and in kind funding sources for construction and installation. Spearheaded city wide launch event. Completed monument erected and dedicated to the city of Alexandria in 2004. The Shipbuilder is a tribute to an industry that has played a critical role in Alexandria’s proud military and economic history.

Ms Winburn served as a marketing and communications principal for this internet start up. Advised and assisted in various phases of start up company that focused on providing technological solutions to multiple companies. GoodHome.com was featured in Forbes 2000 “Best of the Web” issue. This nationally recognized start up initiative focused on the furniture industry. Developed and co managed by Baird Johnson and Billy Winburn.

INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN'S FESTIVAL

WOLF TRAP NATIONAL PARK FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS

MEDIA COORDINATOR AND BOARD MEMBER 1990, 1991

Created and directed international and domestic media strategy for this international event in collaboration with the Fairfax County Council of the Arts. Comprehensive communications and marketing campaign included print and broadcast communications, including a featured spot on “Voice of America.” Managed the corporate sponsored gala and maintained contacts with embassies of participating countries.

THE CORCORAN SCHOOL OF ART AND DESIGN

In collaboration with author and current education committee board member, Linda Tyler, Birdsong Communications Group has developed a proposal for the development of a multi faceted educational media project entitled ” Inside the Corcoran” focused on educating youth of all ages about the history of the Corcoran Museum of Art and the College of Art and Design and  the fertile background the College provides for artists.  The proposed project would also focus on the evolution of the well known Washington Color School. The proposed media project has an international reach for audiences of all ages. Furthermore,  the digital technology component would provide the potential for a variety of instructional experiences. Prototypes of other instructional media packages  were researched from a wide range of museums  including, but not limited to, The Cooper Hewitt Museum and The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
